Drilling Engineering

From the exploration of the final repository sites Gorleben, Morsleben, and Konrad we have more than 20 years experience in drilling engineering, with many site survey and characterization boreholes drilled from the surface and from underground. Horizontal boreholes drilled from the underground at Gorleben and Morsleben with lengths of up to 700 m were carried out with quality and safety standards far exceeding normal mining requirements. Drilling rigs and borehole safety devices for underground drilling were further developed in accordance with the most stringent requirements and the preventers approved for 21 MPa operating pressure.
Our staff includes experienced miners, drillmasters, and geoscientists with proven experience from a large number of geotechnical exploration boreholes. The drilling team was especially trained using the most advanced safety devices, and obtained certification from the "Deutsche Bohrmeisterschule" (German Drillmaster School).

        - Measurement of displacement and stresses
        - Measurement of pressure, temperature, humidity
        - Precision surveying and mapping of underground
          cavities
        - Geophysical survey with electro-magnetic probes as
          well as seismic and geo-acoustic methods
